Book Review: Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce

After finishing up the Song of the Lioness I wasn’t quite ready to leave Tortall.  So I’ve started the Immortals quartet.  Here is my review of Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce.

Wild Magic (The Immortals, Book 1) - Tamora Pierce

This story starts maybe ten years or so after the end of Lioness Rampant.  While this story is a new beginning and the focus is on a new set of characters, it is great to see how some of our old favorites are doing.  Although it’s worth noting that you certainly aren’t missing out if you haven’t read any of the other books.

We are introduced to Daine and her wild magic.  Because of the way she interacts with the animals around her, we also get a number of interesting other characters in them.  The focus on the animals and natural part of magic is an interesting and new feel for a land we are already familiar with.

We’re introduced to memorable characters and have a fun little adventure.  This is a good start to a much larger story.  I give it four out of five stars.
