Things I’ve Read: Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon

You ever read something at what seems to be exactly the right time? This was that book for me.  Here are some thoughts on Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon.

Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative - Austin Kleon

This is a really fast read.  I probably got through it in about an hour.  It’s short, sweet and easy.  With little thoughts and inspiration it doesn’t feel like some big overwhelming plan to be creative. It’s all just little bits and pieces that don’t seem so scary.

I also really like the idea of taking ideas from all over the place and when you put it all together you get something new.  I tend to start a little idea but feel like it’s not original enough.  This idea of taking what you’d like and what you want just seems more manageable.  It even has a little section that really breaks down “stealing” vs plagiarizing.  It’s probably my favorite part of the book.

If you need a little inspiration to get the creative juices flowing, I would recommend this book.  It’s worth every minute spent reading it.
